Battle for the Unocal


In this article “Chinese Oil Company join bid for Unocal” from the New York Times, the author introduces the fact that China has one of the largest oil company is one of the symbol of China’s growing economy. China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) is trying to takeover or to bid for the U.S. Corporation. Furthermore the author also mentions that CNOOC is bidding for $ 16.4 billion for the Unocal of the American Oil Company. This situation will cause a bidding war over the American oil company Unocal. The author also said that these bid will began a debate in Washington about the U.S trade policy with China and the other Countries that will be participate in this event. The CNOOC bidding the Unocal with other countries onto a uphill battle. The author also mentions that maybe the President of the United States will intervene to block the bid of the Unocal. Finally the author mention about that whether that the CNOOC wins the bid or not but the company is still interested on buying the Unocal of the American Oil Company. CNOOC will continue selling their oil and natural gas to the United States Company.

In my point of view, Chinese National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) should win the bid of the Unocal American Oil Company. With CNOOC working together with the American Oil Company, CNOOC will be the left handed of the American Oil Company when the American Oil Company has a problem with their company.

With the other Countries participate on bid for the Unocal, China should also participate on the event. China should bid more higher than other countries to win over the other countries. China also should be more patient on the bid so than it will not cause a war between other country.

In my conclusion, China should buy the Unocal of the American Oil Company. With this way the United States should more benefits form other countries than are doing business in their country.
